I looked at Falcor and then Zander as if they could help me. "Where the fuck is Crow?" I got to my feet and went to the window, looking out as if I could find him and he would make Nick stay. It was stupid, but I was still too tired and emotionally drained to know what else to do. "I saved you!" I yelled, spinning around to stare at Nick. His soft expression didn't falter.

"Selena, I'll be here, if you need me. I should go," Nick said, then he walked out of the hotel room, closing the door behind him with a click. I had half a moment to wonder if I was just being selfish wanting him to stay. Of course, he would step up and help if it meant saving the lives of vampires. If he was the only one who could regain the peace between them and the warlocks and witches. But another part of me just wanted to keep Nick.

Things had been strained between us, but he was okay now and we could just go back to the way it was. Something felt wrong. Off. But I couldn't put my finger on it. Minutes passed, and I saw him from the window as he exited the hotel and climbed into the back of a limo. His green hair blowing in the wind.

I was too wrung out to even conjure up a new emotion, so I went with the one that as the easiest. I let the tears roll down my cheeks.

"Take me home," I muttered, then heard Falcor's footsteps as he gathered his bag and mine. There was nothing left to do in Phoenix. It was time to go home.

There were more wraiths waiting for me there and apparently nothing left for me in Phoenix.
